CAREER

captured first career win aboard Hammy Hubert on June 21, 1981 at Fort Erie...won first stakes race aboard La Salle Park in the 1982 Fair Play at Fort Erie...emerged as one of Canada's top jockeys late in 1992, scoring his first title at the Greenwood Autumn meet...won five races on one card on November 12, 1992 at Greenwood...delivered a memorable 1993, winning a Sovereign Award as Canada's most outstanding jockey...duplicated the Sovereign Award feat in 1994, winning his first and only Woodbine title in the process (175 wins)...led Woodbine jockey colony in stakes wins in 1993, 1994 and 1996...rode an amazing five consecutive champion two-year-old fillies (Larkwhistle, 1996; Primaly, 1997; Fantasy Lake, 1998; Hello Seattle, 1999; Poetically, 2000)...in 1998, guided Archers Bay to victory in the Prince of Wales Stakes...in '99, he captured Atto Mile glory aboard Sam-Son Farm's Quiet Resolve ($91.10)...recorded career win 1,500 on November 14, 1999, winning the Sir Barton Stakes aboard Hot Pepper Hill...in 2000, Landry piloted Catch the Ring to a win in the Canadian Oaks, winning the first two legs (Oaks and Bison City Stakes) before finishing second in the final leg (Wonder Where Stakes)...despite a tough mid-season injury in 2001, Landry emerged on top in several big races, winning the Eclipse Stakes with Graeme Hall, the Durham Cup with A Fleets Dancer, the Maple Leaf with Catch The Ring and the La Voyageuse with Torrid Affair...he did however ride in the Queen's Plate in late June...in 2002, he notched 51 wins and won eight stakes...2003 was solid year for Landry, who netted the 'Richard Dos Ramos double' by duplicating his fellow riders' 2002 feat of receiving the Avelino Gomez Award and winning the Labatt Woodbine Oaks on the same day, guiding Too Late Now to victory in the three-year-old filly event...Landry won 48 races despite missing eight weeks of action after an on-track spill...won five stakes races in total in 2003... Landry's finest moment came when he won his 'Stanley Cup,' guiding Niigon to victory in the Queen's Plate in 2004, the veteran rider's first triumph in Canada's most famous horse race...Landry also took the Eclipse and Woodbine Slots Cup with Mark One and the Victoria with Flamenco...won 52 races in all...eclipsed the 15,000-mount mark in 2004... in 2005, rode seven different horses to seven stakes wins...pulled off major upset with Awesome Action, defeating 2004 Horse of the Year, Soaring Free, in the Ontario Jockey Club Stakes...fourth consecutive year of topping $3.5-million mark in purse earnings...ranked 10th in the colony, his highest placing since 2000 (seventh)...eclipsed the 1,800-win mark...in 2006, piloted Sam-Son Farm’s champion two-year-old filly Catch the Thrill to victory in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, Landry’s first score in the key Labatt Woodbine Oaks event...in 2007, won five stakes with three different horses (Ontario Jockey Club and Labeeb with Awesome Action; Vice Regent and Bunty Lawless with Rahy’s Attorney and Mt. Sassafras with Sail From Seattle)...recorded 17 turf victories, ranking him fourth in the category...upped his purse earnings by almost $500,000 compared to 2006his 7.29 average win odds were fourth-highest among top 15 riders...has guided a number of high-profile horses to Woodbine stakes wins (Capdiva, Milwaukee Brew, Trailthefox, Poetically, A Fleets Dancer, Pinafore Park, Fantasy Lake, Whiskey Wisdom, Santa Amelia, Graeme Hall) in his career......spent 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 winter months working in south Florida.

AFTER THE WIRE

Landry, a board member for the LongRun Thoroughbred Society, made donation boxes and signed autographs on Secretariat Day at Woodbine in 2003, helping raise $13,000 for the charity...keeps meticulous notes about each race he rides, all entered in a database...suffered several serious injuries in his career, including a broken cheekbone in 1981, a broken back and ribs in 1984 and broken vertebrae in 1997...rides for trainer Sue Leslie and owner/hockey star Curtis Joseph...donates his time to various children's charities including C.A.R.D. and the Special Olympics... lends his time and support to various Woodbine promotions, including his role as ‘Santa Claus’ in a 2006 television commercial...enjoys working with wood...wife’s name is Samantha.
